The transfer of
traditional skills and crafts tends to be a generational thing. Usually
it is a matter of one generation being taught by the preceding one. In the
case of Denis Anderson however, there was a generational leap, as the was
schooled in woodcarving and cabinetry by men who were old enough to be his
grandfather. Fred Barrie, one of Australia's finest furniture makers, and
Frank Stanton, his head cabinetmaker of sixty years, passed on an enthusiasm
and passion for making the finest furniture.

Denis went on to establish his own
furniture making shop in Newcastle in 1986.
“My decision to make furniture
the traditional way is a legacy from Fred Barrie and it is something
that I love. I love the process of designing and creating for a customer
and using excellent timbers to produce a piece that will stay in a
family for generations.”
Denis and his small team of highly skilled
employees create a diverse range of furniture in all styles. Denis
treasures the modest size of his business which ensures quality is
to the highest standard. French polishing, upholstery and installation
are all carried out by Anderson's Cedar Furniture. Contact
